On April 4th, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced the implementation of export controls on seven types of medium and heavy rare earth-related items, including samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, lutetium, scandium, and yttrium.

If rare earth magnetic materials contain the above seven elements, they require approval for export. For users of rare earth magnetic materials, it does indeed mean submitting more materials in terms of procedures. However, once the specific operation rules are straightened out, the delivery cycle will gradually return to normal.

At the same time, heavy rare earth-free magnetic materials will inevitably arouse great interest among overseas customers. By adhering to high-intensity and large-scale investment in technological innovation, and through the continuous efforts of nearly a thousand R&D personnel over the years, JLMAG Group, the world’s largest NdFeB enterprise, has the most advanced technologies in the industry such as grain refinement and grain boundary strengthening. In order to actively respond to the national policy of fully building the “Two Rare Earth Bases”, JLMAG’s board of directors, adhering to the vision of “becoming a leading enterprise in the global rare earth permanent magnet industry”, based on market demand and in line with the company’s own business development requirements, and on the basis of achieving a production capacity of 40,000 tons of high-performance rare earth permanent magnet materials by 2025, JLMAG plans to invest and construct the “Green Intelligent Manufacturing Project with an Annual Output of 20,000 Tons of High-Performance Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Materials”  through its wholly-owned subsidiary JL MAG RARE-EARTH (BAOTOU) CO., LTD. The total planned investment of the project is 1,050 million yuan.

The construction period of the project is 2 years. After completion, JLMAG  will have an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons of high-performance rare earth permanent magnet materials.

The construction of this project is a crucial measure for JLMAG to further solidify its group-level production capabilities. It enables JLMAG to refine its industrial layout, expand its business scale, and meet the order requirements of customers in new energy and energy-saving and environmental-protection sectors such as new-energy vehicles, variable-frequency air conditioners, and humanoid robots. This aligns with relevant national industrial policies and JLAMG’s overall strategic development direction in the future, enhancing JLMAG’s industry standing and risk-resilience, and strengthening its comprehensive strength. After the project is completed, it will help JLMAG achieve capacity expansion and efficiency enhancement, give full play to the advantages of each production base within the group, further cut production costs, and boost product competitiveness.

Recently, S&P Global, one of the world’s leading rating agencies, released its 2024 S&P Global ESG Scores. JLMAG’s score rose significantly from 44 to 56 compared to the previous year, placing it among the top performers globally in its industry. The Company’s scores in the Environmental, Social, and Governance(ESG) dimensions all exceeded the industry average, with a particularly strong performance in the Social dimension. In the Environmental dimension, JLMAG excelled in areas such as climate change, energy management and water resource management.

This rating is primarily based on the results S&P’s of Corporate Sustainability Assessment(CSA), one of the world’s largest annual evaluations of corporate sustainability practices. The CSA covers sustainability assessment standards across 62 different industries, quantifying companies’ information disclosure and performance in the three major dimensions of environment, society, and governance to comprehensively reflect their sustainability management levels. In 2023, over 3,500 worldwide companies voluntarily participated in the CSA questionnaire, with more than 500 companies from the Greater China region, setting a new record. The CSA has become a critical reference tool for companies to evaluate their sustainability performance from an investor’s perspective.

JLMAG places a high priority on ESG development. Over the years, the Company has supplied high-performance rare-earth permanent magnet materials to energy-efficient and environmentally friendly industries, such as new energy vehicles and auto parts, energy-saving variable frequency air conditioners, wind power, 3C robots and industrial servo motors, energy-efficient elevators, and rail transit.
